How to Design a Homepage That Encourages Customer Inquiries

19 Oct 2026 4 min read

A homepage that generates inquiries answers three questions within seconds: what do you do, is it right for me, and what should I do next. Your homepage is often the first page a potential customer sees, and many will decide whether to stay or leave before scrolling. Its job is not to tell your whole story. It is to move the right people toward contacting you.

Lead with a clear value proposition

The top of the page, visible without scrolling, should state what you offer, who it is for and why it is worth choosing. A strong headline names the service or outcome in plain words. A short supporting line can add location, speciality or a key differentiator, such as response time or years in business.

Avoid vague slogans. “Your trusted partner in excellence” tells visitors nothing. “Commercial electricians serving Nairobi, available 24 hours” tells them everything they need to decide whether to read on.

Put a call to action above the fold

Visitors should never have to search for a way to contact you. Place a prominent button in the first screen, with specific wording such as “Request a Free Quote” or “Call Us Today”. Add your phone number to the header so it is visible on every page, and make it tappable on mobile.

Repeat the call to action at logical points further down the page, so visitors can act the moment they feel convinced.

Make navigation simple

A crowded menu overwhelms people. Limit the main navigation to the pages that matter most, usually services, about, proof of work and contact. Use plain labels. “Services” is clearer than “Solutions” or “What we do”.

Show your services clearly

Give visitors a quick overview of what you offer, with short descriptions and links to detail pages. Group related services, use clear headings and focus on the customer’s problem rather than your internal terminology. This helps people self-select and reach the page most relevant to them.

Build trust early

People hesitate to contact businesses they do not know. Support your claims with evidence on the homepage itself:

  • Customer testimonials with names and, where possible, photos
  • Logos of recognisable clients or partners
  • Ratings from review platforms
  • Certifications, licences or awards
  • Real photos of your team and work

Stock photos of smiling strangers add little. Genuine images feel more credible and help visitors imagine working with you.

Keep the design clean and scannable

Most visitors skim. Use clear headings, short paragraphs, generous white space and a consistent visual style. Make sure your most important elements, the headline, call to action and key proof, stand out through size, colour or position. Avoid auto-playing carousels and cluttered banners, which distract and often go unread.

Reduce friction in the contact process

Provide more than one way to reach you, because customers differ. A phone number, a short contact form and a messaging link such as WhatsApp cover most preferences. Keep forms short, and tell visitors what happens after they submit: “We reply within one business day” is reassuring.

Load quickly on every device

Slow pages drive visitors away. Compress images, limit heavy scripts and test performance on mobile. A fast, responsive homepage signals professionalism and keeps people long enough to act.

Measure what works

Use analytics to see how visitors behave. Track clicks on your call to action, form submissions and phone taps. Heatmaps and session recordings can show where people hesitate or stop scrolling. When you change something, such as a headline or button, compare results before and after.

The bottom line

A homepage that generates inquiries is clear, credible and easy to act on. Say what you do, prove you do it well, and make contacting you the obvious next step.
